Can you use "Stay Free Maxi" pads while swimming?

My friend asked me to go swimming in a pool tomorrow but im on my period. I really wanna go but im only 13 and cant use tampons. My mom wont let me. I was wondering if stay free maxi pads were good to use while swimming. Thanks in advance(:
