Would i get away with wearing a maxi skirt to prom?

Basically I have my year 11 prom this year and its really not me to wear a prom dress so I was thinking about buying a black maxi skirt and wearing a top maybe green pink or blue well any colour really and wearing some black statement heels and wearing jewellery and a belt in the colour of the top with smokey eyes and 'promish' style hair?
