Do you think maxi dresses have an age limit?

What I mean is, would you think their more suited for older women instead of teen girls? I'm 14 and I really love the way they look but I feel people would look at me weird if I wore one out. I usually wear shorts and stuff like that, nothing that really covers me too well lol. So, what's your opinion?
